2012Record setting underwater Cycling
I’ve been at the Southampton Boat Show press day (Friday 14 September) to document the attempt by Chris Sirett and Brian Stokes to create a new Guinness World Record for cycling a bike underwater using SCUBA.
The distance travelled is what counts and these two “Nutters” from The Royal Marines representing Commando 999 will attempt to cover as long a distance in 24 hours as their little body’s will allow.
Dehydration and fatigue from exertion and lack of sleep will come second to their main enemy : hypothermia, the water today was nippy to say the least and I was in a drysuit and only spent half an hour with them taking some shots for their PR company and the press association.
They’re going to ride in relays of about an hour each, starting at 12 midday on Saturday 15 and finishing at midday on Sunday.
I wish them all the luck in the world.
